There's been a lot going on in Star Trek in the latter half of this year, most of thrm having something to do with prominent ships.
Kirk and Spock went kind of canon on the 18th November 2024 with 765874 - Unification. I don't think I can quite capture how I felt watching this thing, it's beautiful. It also made me feel a bit better about the ending of Generations.
That film (Generations) was bad, and if you've read the small review I wrote for it, you could probably surmise how I felt. It also had massive implications in terms of interpersonal relationships, especially with Spock; Kirk was dead and they'd never see each other again.
765874 provides a satisfactory ending to the story of Kirk and Spock. Yeah they might not have gone canon technically, but in the hearts of many they basically did. Spock didn't actually die alone, Kirk was there the whole time! Emotional and visually stunning, it's the best send off I think most of us could've hoped for.
I've never seen Enterprise, but apparently Trip and T'Pol went canon in the penultimate episode of Lower Decks? Honestly, good for them, they deserve it!
Finally, Garak and Bashir also (sorta kinda) went canon in the penultimate episode of Lower Decks! I've not seen the whole episode, but I've seen one supercut of all the moments Garak and Bashir have on screen together and guys. They're actually married! They got Andy Robinson and Alexander Sidig on board to voice them, although I doubt that part was very hard.
I've seen that people are dissapointed because they're alternate versions of Garak and Bashir (Bashir is literally an EMH), but I don't care; when you're dealing with Paramount you have to take what you can get! It also has the implication that the Garak and Bashir of the prime univserse (aka the versions in DS9) also got together. So, it's a win in my books.
On a non-shippy note, it was also quite cool to see that DS9 managed to predict the weather and temperature conditions of 2024 (in the two parter 'Past Tense') back in 1995!
We've got just over 2 weeks left until the end of the year, there's still time for the Irish Unification.
